Kuta Langis Ecolodge

…our regeneration and rewilding site which used to be a palm oil plantation!

If you really want to get away from it all then our Kuta Langis Ecolodge is the perfect base for you. It is only 30 minutes from Bukit Lawang, between the villages of Tualang Gepang and Bukit Kencur, right on the border of Gunung Leuser national park and has a view to die for! You will feel like you are in a different world…your own private rainforest resort….and we have no neighbours.

We bought the land (6 hectares) when it was a palm oil plantation which we chopped down and have now successfully rewilded & regenerated by planting a mixture of fruit trees and allowing the borders to go wild. By rewilding the borders they now act as corridors to connect the wildlife to the national park rainforest. (further info below)

You have a choice of staying in a Jungle Villa (can sleep 4) or a
super cute and cosy a-frame cabin Jungle Cabin (can sleep 2/3).

UPDATE: July 2023 we finished building a brand new Jungle Villa, so we now have 2!
- will update info below very soon.

Jungle Villa

The jungle villa was built by local craftsmen from locally and sustainably sourced hardwood (it came from a friends ladang) and has one large bedroom with a double bed and bunk beds. It can sleep up to 4 people and possibly more if you like to ‘camp out’ on the spacious terrace . But it is the incredible views of the rainforest from both the bedroom and the open plan terrace that will really blow you away and make you never want to leave.

There are actually two bathroom: one en suite and one on the ground floor - like a boot room - which is great for when you return from a trek/activities.

Jungle Cabin

Our Jungle Cabin is a cute a-frame cabin for 2 people…but could probably sleep 3 if you don’t mind being cosy. All materials used to build the cabin came from this site…..we only had to get a little bit of extra palm thatch from a neighbour.

It has a shared bathroom right next door (only 10 seconds away) which has an amazing view of the rainforest!

How much does it cost to stay at Ecolodge?

Because of the remote nature of our Ecolodge when you stay here it is on an ‘all-inclusive’ basis. This means that all food and drink is provided for you and served in our cafe which has, once again, amazing views of the rainforest. Yummy indonesian food, freshly prepared by Ogan our trek chef (everyone LOVES his food) and plenty fresh fruit. We can cater for most dietary requirements and of course we are flexible about the menu and will discuss this with you when you make your booking.

For sure the prices might seem more expensive than you would be expecting but the Ecolodge and regeneration site are operated in a sustainable manner, there are no other hotels or rooms and you really will be in your own private rainforest edge resort. By staying here you are helping to protect the rainforest, its wildlife and help the community.

Packages are based on 2 people…and for more than 2 people there will be a supplement to cover the extra food and occupancy.

Jungle Villa = 1,500,000 idr per night
Jungle Cabin = 1,200,000 idr per night

includes: exclusive use of the villa or cabin, all food and soft drink, unlimited drinking water and a guided river walk to an amazing wild swimming spot.

How do I get to Ecolodge?
Depending on where you are coming from there are few different options:

  • from the airport a private car transfer all the way to Ecolodge is 800,000 idr

  • from Bukit Lawang a comfortable private car is 400,000 idr, a rickety jeep is 300,00 idr

    • motorbike transfers are possible (depends on your luggage) and are 100,000 idr per person

What can you do in and around Kuta Langis Ecolodge:

You can do many things without even leaving Kuta Langis and the comfort of our jungle villa/jungalow. Perhaps you need to simply take time to relax, chill out and just ‘be’ without the pressure of doing an activity or achieving something. Why not read your book or maybe do some yoga, meditate or even catch up on that hobby you have been meaning to do…arting phtography etc . Sitting in the cafe or on your terrace drink your morning coffee whilst listening to the sounds of jungle wildlife awakening such as Siamangs, Hornbills and White handed gibbons. Walk around birdspotting and look for dragonflys around the natural spring water pool or try and spot the baby turtle that lives there. Go for a river walk to a beautiful spot for some wild swimming and a riverside picnic……

Trekking:
You can of course use Kuta Langis as a base from which to go trekking and explore virtually untouched rainforest! Anything is possible from a few hours river walk, a day scrambling through canyons and swimming in waterfalls to multi day treks with camping in the jungle. There is plenty of wildlife to see but as it is truly wild and not used to human visitors it generally tends to hide away from humans. Only Green Hill take guests trekking in this area and have many many years experience here so you are not likely to meet any other trekkers. You could even stay here and go trekking to Bukit Lawang for the day. Have a look at the info and prices on our trekking page and then email/whatsapp for further info.

Explore the villages....
There are two villages close to Kuta Langis Ecolodge, Tualang Gepang and Bukit Kencur, they are surrounded by palm oil plantations and the main income is from rubber tapping and subsistence farming. You can take a guided walk around and learn about daily village life . You can also take a wander around on your own and perhaps sit in the little warungs (cafe) and buy some snacks or have a coffee or some noodles and maybe even join in the later afternoon badminton and Takrow (best described as foot volleyball played using a ball made from rattan). We have an active community conservation project which you can join in and you can help make a difference e.g. volunteer on a Border Patrol or in our community library.

Take a day trip out to the hotsprings at Batu Rongring or into BUkit Lawang for a trek or general look around.
