Permit for National Park: the cost of the permit for entrance into Gunung Leuser National Park (150,000 idr) is included in the price of your trek. The price of the permit increases on Sundays and national holidays to 225,000 idr (this is set by the government and national park authorities). Please note that if your trek ends on a Sunday or a national holiday we will sadly have to ask you to pay the slightly higher cost of +75,000 idr per person when you complete the trek admin at Green Hill.
2 day Discovery Trek
two different rainforest locations and an overnight camp.
DAY 1: After an early breakfast you will walk downriver from Green Hill then transfer directly (30 min by motorbike or jeep) to the village of Tualang Gepang/Bukit Kencur and enter the virtually untouched rainforest and begin your trek. You will almost certainly not meet any other people! There is plenty of wildlife here and it can be more tricky to spot as it is not used to humans BUT dont worry...you will have a regular guide and also you will be joined by a tracking guide from the local village who used to be a hunter and he will share with you his knowledge of the trails and the flora and fauna. During your trek you must also remember to take time to simply embrace the amazing atmosphere of the jungle environment and perhaps do a spot of forest bathing!. You will stop for water breaks as needed, a mid morning fruit snack and after a tasty lunch around mid-day you will continue your trek. Dependant on the weather you will aim to get to camp around 3-4pm where tea and biscuits will be waiting for you. You will sleep in a bamboo frame tent covered with thick plastic sheets and your evening meal will consist of a selection of local Indonesian dishes freshly prepared and cooked over a camp fire.
DAY 2: After an early breakfast you will trek out of the jungle and transfer directly back to Bukit Lawang where you will continue your trek for around 3-4 hours and have good chances of spotting wildlife. After a light lunch you will return to Green Hill by a refreshing and exhilirating raft ride down the Bohorok river.

2 day Discovery Trek - luxury option
two different locations and an overnight stay at our Kuta Langis Ecolodge
This trek is ideal for those of you who want to be adventurous but are not sure about sleeping in a simple jungle camp. It is also perfect for families with young children who are concerned about sleeping in the jungle. The trekking aspect is essentially the same as the Discovery Trek described to the left BUT...the big difference is that you will sleep in the comfort of our wonderful Kuta Langis Ecolodge.
Accommodation is in our “Jungle Villa” or the super cute A frame “Jungalow” cabin. The Villa has a large bedroom (double + bunk beds) and if guests wish they can sleep out on the open plan terrace. It is actually quite lovely to sleep on the terrace and wake up to the gentle morning jungle chorus (white handed gibbons, siamang, hornbills..) and watch the mist slowly disappearing as the sun rises higher...with a cup of sumatran coffee. There is also a wonderful kitchen and communal eating area where you will take your meals looking out at the most amazing view ever....really! There are two bathrooms with fresh running water from the spring pool on site and the newest bathroom on the hillside has an amazing open air shower with panoramic views of the rainforest!

2 day “Back to Nature” trek in Tualang Gepang
This trek is for guests who really want to focus on getting back to nature and experience the rainforest environment and not see any other people. There is plenty of wildlife here but it is truly wild and tends to hide away from human visitors. Of course you have a chance to search for and hopefully spot wildlife but we do not make any guarantees and the focus of this trek is to embrace the rainforest environment. There is nothing more amazing than sitting by a river and spotting a forest kingfisher perching on a branch or seeing a dazzling tree squirrel scurrying high in the rainforest canopy.
DAY 1: After an early breakfast you will be taken on a 30minute ride to the remote village of Bukit Kencur. A short walk through rubber plantations takes you into virtually untouched rainforest where you will trek up a river to have lunch by a waterfall cave or to an amazing batcave which is rarely visited by humans. Throughout this trek you will be accompanied by a Bukit lawang guide and also following in the footsteps of a guide from the local village who used to be a hunter but now works with Green Hill. Along with your guide he will share his specialist knowledge of trails, wildlife and the area and you will be able to learn about the unique flora and fauna (e.g. medicinal plants, jungle food, and maybe try the magic fruit that makes everything taste sweet...).Your tent is a simple bamboo frame covered with strong tarpaulin and your evening meal and breakfast will be cooked over an open campfire.
DAY 2: The following morning you will trek again or you can relax by the river until, after a light lunch, it is time for you to trek out of the jungle and return to Bukit Lawang.

3 day DISCOVERY TREK:

On this trek you get to see both the classic trek area of Bukit Lawang along with its habituated widlife and the remote area of Bukit Kencur and embrace a virtually pristine jungle atmosphere. With having the 3 days you have a full day in the middle where you are focusing solely on trekking and going a little deeper into the jungle: you will not be packing your rucksack to go into or out of the jungle or transferring between locations, you will simply be trekking.

After a light lunch you will return to Green Hill by a refreshing and exhilirating raft ride down the Bohorok river.
